Open Studio Weekend Celebrates 20 Years

Vermont is home to an impressive number of highly talented artists and craftspeople.

Printmakers, painters, sculptors, glass artists, furniture makers, metal smiths, and fabric artists are just some of the gifted artisans who find inspiration for their work in Vermont.  Each Memorial Day Weekend many of these artists and craftspeople - like Harry and Wendy Besett and Bob Compton, whose work is pictured above - open their studios to welcome visitors for conversation, demonstrations, browsing and sales.

This year is the 20th Anniversary of the Vermont Crafts Council statewide Spring Open Studio Weekend, and it's taking place on May 26 and 27, 2012. A free map booklet with directions to the studios of this spring's 259 participating artists and craftspeople is available at Vermont Information Centers, from individual studios and galleries, on-line at www.vermontcrafts.com , or by emailing a request to vt1crafts@aol.com.

Plan to take advantage of this opportunity to learn how art and craft is made at the studios of glass blowers, jewelers, printmakers, potters, furniture makers, weavers, ironworkers, painters, sculptors, quilt makers and wood carvers. Many galleries will also host gallery talks and feature special exhibits in conjunction with Vermont Open Studio Weekend.

With so many artists to choose from, perhaps you'll want to come back for the Fall Foliage Open Studio Weekend too.  Mark your calendar: October 6 and 7, 2012.
