Elsa.Gilbertson@state.vt.us ORWELL, Vt. - Spring into spring on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at noon for a wildflower walk at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vermont. Amy Olmsted, a nursery professional for more than 20 years, will lead the program. Olmsted is a horticulturist with Rocky Dale Gardens in Bristol.
Learn about the beauties of spring, plant names, and their habitats in this special event before the site opens for the season on May 26. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. This walk, co-sponsored by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation and the Mount Independence Coalition, is open to the public. Admission is $5.00 for adults and free for children under 15. Meet at noon outside the Museum. Call 802-759-2412 for more information. The Mount Independence State Historic Site is located near the end of Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of Vermont Routes 22A and 73 near Orwell village; carefully follow the signs. The site will open for the regular season on Saturday, May 26. Regular hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily through October 8.
