ON INDEPENDENCE DAY, VERMONT MARCHES TO A DIFFERENT DRUMMER

Add to Celebrations of Parades and Fireworks: Sports, Symphonies, Speedways & Satire

VermontVacation.com is aglow with 21 fireworks shows, 13 parades and 104 events listed during the Fourth of July week-long celebration. The VermontVacation.com Travel Planner includes these festivities and much more information, searchable by region or activity. Here are a few ideas to celebrate this Independence Day holiday:

RACING
Experience the thrill of Barre's Thunder Road Speedway and a special Fourth of July fireworks show.

SYMPHONY
The Grafton Music Festival celebrates its fifth annual event in Grafton, Vermont, July 3-6. The pinnacle event of the Festival continues to be the annual Vermont Symphony Orchestra concert and fireworks at Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center on July 3.

SATIRE
The quixotic Warren Parade is a perennial favorite in the Mad River Valley; it's revered for its witty skits and floats, costuming and political satire.

SHOP
Stowe's Independence Day celebration will offer a parade, fireworks and much more! Visitors can enjoy Stowe 7 Miles of Sales, a town-wide sale not to be missed! More than 60 independent locally-owned boutiques, galleries, and one-of-a-kind specialty stores are participating in this annual event!

EQUINE
While many are riding on floats and tractors in parades, there's also the Vermont Summer Festival Horse Show in Dorset, with hundreds of equestrians gathered for the Vermont Summer Special, July 2-7.

RUN
Kicking off the Fourth in Woodstock, there's the 37th Annual John Langhans 7.1 Green Mile Road Race, Team Challenge and Kids Fun Run. To register for the race, visit www.active.com. Post-race festivities include music, ice skating, ice cream making, wagon rides, a picnic and fireworks. For further information, visit www.unionarena.org.

THEATER
Following the town's Independence Day Parade on the Fourth, visit the Historic Town Hall for a live performance of "The Rivalry" just up the road from where one of the candidates in the 1858 Illinois Senatorial election, Stephen A. Douglas, was born. The performance features former Vermont Governors Madeleine Kunin and Jim Douglas and Vermont educator John Dilts. "The Rivalry" is a testament to the willingness of two leading political adversaries to put aside their differences and "reach across the aisle" for the good of the country. Please visit www.brandon.org or call 802-247-6401.

SPLASH
The Kingdom Aquafest is a major summer event in Newport. It's packed with a week full of July 4th Celebrations, internationally famous Pet and Swimmers Parade, Pick & Shovel Bed Races down Main Street, kayak races, Lobster fest, Music on Main, fireworks, and so much more.
