Agricultural Fairs

As sure as new lambs in the spring, county fairs and field days crop up early summer and flourish through the early fall.

While each fair has its own particular flavor, what you are sure to find is a mix of farm, food and fun. It’s a great place to see every breed of chicken imaginable, or to watch kids show their calves and their fathers and uncles compete in ox pulls or draft horse demonstrations.

Then there’s the must-have summer food like fried dough, maple ice-cream, and barbeque chicken with farm-fresh corn. A midway will lure young and old to rides both sedate and scary, and there will be plenty of opportunities to try your skill and luck in pursuit of carnival prizes.

Come evening the midway lights up and entertainment gears up. You might join in an arm-wrestling competition, or grab some popcorn and enjoy a demolition derby or a stage full of rocking musicians.

Whatever the mix, everyone goes home tired and happy.
