History Museums

History is for all ages at the Vermont Historical Society

When Vermont was founded in 1791, Native Americans had already made their homes in the region for 12,000 years. Vermont's is a long history, and there are many museums that tell the stories.

To get a bird's eye view, you may want to begin with Freedom and Unity: One Ideal, Many Stories at the Vermont History Museum. You'll take a walk through Vermont history in re-created rooms ranging from a full-sized Abenaki wigwam to a WWII living room.

But don’t stop there! Vermont offers museums ranging from historic homes spanning two centuries, to museums of industry, recreation, and military history.
