Vermont Serves up Happy Thanksgivings with Snowy, Green Mountain Getaways
In the spirit of giving thanks and spreading cheer this November, Vermont Tourism has gathered a collection of events, dinners and Thanksgiving lodging packages to enrich your season. Here’s an amuse-bouche; all the fixings can be found at VermontVacation.com.
Holiday Open House at the Brownington Museum
Thanksgiving treats will served from the kitchen hearth and visitors can partake in old fashioned ornament making and wreath decorating. Plus, the 10-piece Newport Orchestra Chamber Ensemble will perform. Enjoy some Christmas shopping for books, locally made crafts and old fashioned toys.
Thanksgiving Farmer's Market at the Round Barn Farm
Source locally grown, certified organic and natural vegetables, meats, and cheeses and fresh seafood to prepare your Thanksgiving day feast. Also peruse holiday gifts, natural décor and sway to live music in a beautiful barn setting. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Call 802. 496.3081.
Loaded Turkey Rail Jam
This year, Killington kicks off the season with a rail jam, good ol’ Thanksgiving style. That’s right, there’s a turkey as the grand prize along with all the fixings for second and third place winners! Additionally, the judges will hand out pumpkin pies and prize to the top “mini shredders.”
Middlebury College Community Chorus
This musical program includes Thanksgiving Psalm 100 by Minnesota composer René Clausen and Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken. The centerpiece of the concert, with area instrumentalists joining the Chorus, is Franz Schubert's inspired Mass No. 2.
Thanksgiving Weekend at Billings Farm & Museum
Nov. 23 - 25
The Billings Farm & Museum is open for Thanksgiving festivities from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Voted a Top 10 Winter Event by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, the weekend will feature traditional cooking in the farmhouse, pressing cider, horse-drawn wagon rides, farm tours, and hands-on harvest and food preservation activities and programs for every age.
Putney Open Studio Tour
The 34th annual Thanksgiving weekend tradition of Vermont’s Artisan Trail Open Studio Tour in Putney includes 28 artisans: blacksmiths, glass blowers, potters, jewelers, weavers, woodworkers – even cheesemakers. Slow down in this beautiful setting and take a self-guided tour. Demos, food and education run daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The start location is the Putney Inn and maps are available.
Bellows Falls & Walpole Artisan Tour
Regional studio artists open their studios to the public all Thanksgiving weekend. Several multi-media artists will have work on display and available for purchase at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls, Vt., as well as other open studios in neighboring towns Alstead and Walpole, Nh. Watch artisans and glassblowing demos and find locally hand-made holiday gifts.
Gobble Wobbles and Turkey Trots: While several ski resorts will be open for skiing and riding, you can also enjoy a fun run at Killington and Stratton Mountain Resort on November 22 and the Trot It Off 5k & Tots’ Trot at Okemo Mountain Resort on Nov. 24. These community races are fun for avid runners or recreational walkers hoping to burn off those extra helpings of green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.

Stay for two or more nights and enjoy the West Hill House Thanksgiving feast which will delight your taste buds with many locally grown products. Middlebury Inn hosts a Thanksgiving Buffet
Enjoy a wonderfully prepared Thanksgiving dinner at Middlebury Inn, featuring Cider Brined Stonewood Farms Turkey and Maple Glazed Mackenzie Ham. Killington’s Snowed Inn Offers a Gourmet Thanksgiving Getaway
The Snowed Inn has partnered with famed local chef and owner of Choices Restaurant, Claude Blais, to create a gourmet Thanksgiving getaway. Book a two-night stay and receive a voucher good toward Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 22. Dinner includes fresh turkey, with all the fixings, plus soup or salad and a selection from the list of homemade desserts. Two-night packages start at $129.95 per person.
