Back Country Biking

back country biking

From easy rides down gravel roads to spine-tingling excitement on mountain descents, there's a big variety of ways to enjoy biking in Vermont

For road biking off the beaten track, start with Vermont's backroads. Download a PDF copy of the Vermont Bikeways map here, or request a printed folder of the map using our Request Form and select “Biking ” from the ‘Interests’ dropdown. There's 9,000 miles or so to explore, filled with New England's best scenery and quaint villages. Your legs are the limit, and there's little traffic to contend with.

For something more rugged, Vermont is a great destination for mountain biking.  There's everything from biking hot spots like Millstone Hill Touring Center in Barre Town and the booming bike haven of East Burke, where the non-profit Kingdom Trails has created a spectacular 100-mile mapped complex of off-road trails and single track, to biking and yoga retreats at Singletrack Mindfulness. Whether it's single track or downhill, trails, workshops, or rentals that you're after, mountain biking for all ages and abilities is described here.
