Vermont’s Islands and Farms region in our far northwest is a land of traditional farms, mountains and lake views.
The region includes Franklin and Grand Isle counties. It has more shoreline and islands than any other region in Vermont. Farming is a serious pursuit. Lake Champlain and the open countryside offer abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation, with pastoral views and magnificent vistas around every bend in the road.
Nestled between the two is the Inland Sea. In summer months the Inland Sea is perfect for windsurfing, sailing and boating. Fishing is good for landlocked salmon, northern pike, walleye, lake trout and panfish. There is an amazing largemouth and smallmouth bass fishery along the shores of mainland Vermont. In winter the Sea freezes, and hundreds of colorful ice fishing shanties dot the lake surface.
Visit our family farms. Stop for a wine tasting at our vineyards. Tour a maple sugarhouse. Take nature walks through our many state parks. Bike woodland and waterfront trails. Visit historic sites. Cast a fly on a quiet trout stream. Stay in a quaint bed and breakfast and let the sounds of Vermont gently wake you from a peaceful night's sleep. Relax in a lakeside cottage and watch the sun set across the waters of Lake Champlain.
Only one hour from Burlington and Montreal, and 45 minutes from Plattsburgh, NY, the Vermont Islands and Farms region is full of history, tradition and beauty.
