How to Make the Most of Your Sales Tax Holiday
Tips for Consumers
1. RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!
Many stores will be offering special sales, and items originally priced over $2000 may drop beneath that limit. You can benefit from both the discount and the tax exemption!
2. CHECK OUT THE CHECK SPECIALS
Some stores are offering special promotions to stretch your economic stimulus check. So if you make your purchase with one, you may realize even greater savings. That’s stimulating!
3. EFFICIENCY VERMONT
If you’re buying an energy efficient appliance, be sure to look at the rebate programs at Efficiency Vermont for still more extra savings.
4. JUST BUY IT
If an item you want isn’t in stock, order it during the sales tax holiday. If you pay the full price during the holiday, you qualify for the sales tax exemption.
5. DOUBLE UP
If you want to buy separate items in a store that total over $2000, you can purchase them with separate trips to the register to receive your tax savings. Theoretically, you could make an unlimited number of below-$2000 purchases. But you can’t separately buy items that are usually sold as a package.
6. GET DOWNTOWN
Visit your local downtown. Many smaller stores can’t afford to heavily advertise sales and special deals, but chances are excellent that they’ll be offering them for the holiday. You may find that special something just around the corner!
