Greater Newport Area

2019 Stay to Stay Ski Weekend

December 13–16, 2019

Newport and its surroundings are the northernmost crown of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont--the nickname given to the state’s three northeastern counties. Just a day trip away from cosmopolitan Montreal, here the tastes of Vermont and Canada combine with some of the best farm-fresh foods and sweet maple treats that the state has to offer.

With easy access to Lake Memphremagog, a pristine 27-mile international body of water that stretches into Canada, and Jay Peak Ski Resort, which boasts the most snow in eastern North America, Newport and its environs are a haven for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and interests. You can make your own way here, with space to grow and a culture that encourages the enterprising spirit. Stroll along village streets, ski the pristine wilderness, sample some of the best artisanal products in the world, and find a place for yourself in this community.

Did you Know?

  • Kingdom Games hosts the only cold-water swim in the Americas. In February, giant ice blocks are removed from Lake Memphremagog to open a pool in the lake where competitors come from all over the world to race against other hearty souls. Brrr!
  • The historic Haskell Opera House in nearby Derby Line was deliberately constructed astride the international boundary line. Audiences in the United States can enjoy performers onstage in Canada!
  • Lake Memphremagog is said to have its own lake monster, a serpent-like creature known as Memphre.

Welcome Reception

The Welcome Reception takes place on Saturday, December 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30  p.m.

The Family Room in the Hotel Jay
1144 Jay Peak Road,
Jay, Vermont 05859
(800) 451-4449

To take full advantage of the many resources available to you throughout the weekend, we encourage you to connect with the community members you meet at the Saturday reception, and make plans with them for additional conversation, introductions and activity ideas based on your interests.

Weekend Activities

Besides the welcome reception on Saturday evening, the rest of the weekend is unscheduled so that you can explore our vibrant communities and attractions. This is December in the Northeast Kingdom, so you’ll find your fill of wintertime fun throughout the area.

Ski Weekend Activities:

If you’re visiting to experience the most snow in the East, you’ll find a world of activities within Jay Peak Resort. As a special opportunity for our Stay to Stay guests, you will receive free lift or water park tickets to make the most out of your trip - just send an email with the names and ages of those interested to reserve. When you’ve had your fill of shredding the glades or surfing the “waves” at the Resort’s indoor water park, don’t miss the unique shops and dining options in nearby Newport, on the shores of beautiful Lake Memphremagog.

A road trip through the surrounding countryside is also a must. Hill Farmstead brewery, rated the best beer in the world five years in a row, is just a short drive away, and along the way you’ll find eclectic cultural attractions, quaint village centers, hidden foodie gems, and all the scenic views you could want.
