Greater Newport Area

December 13–16

Newport City is the northernmost jewel in the crown of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont--the nickname given to the state’s three northeastern counties. Small by city standards, Newport is big on personality with a long tradition of generous hospitality. Just a day trip away from cosmopolitan Montreal, here the tastes of Vermont and Canada combine with some of the best farm-fresh foods and sweet maple treats that the state has to offer.

With easy access to Lake Memphremagog, a pristine 27-mile international body of water that stretches into Canada, and surrounded by stunning mountain vistas, Newport and its environs are a haven for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and interests. You can make your own way here, with space to grow and a culture that encourages the enterprising spirit. Stroll along village streets, hike the pristine wilderness, sample some of the best artisanal products in the world, and make a place for yourself in this community.

Did you Know?

  • The historic Haskell Opera House in nearby Derby Line was deliberately constructed astride the international boundary line. Audiences in the United States can enjoy performers onstage in Canada!
  • Lake Memphremagog is said to have its own lake monster, a serpent-like creature known as Memphre.
  • Jay Peak Ski Resort boasts the most snow in eastern North America… and an indoor waterpark for those who would rather surf waves than glades.
  • Kingdom Games hosts the only cold-water swim in the Americas. In February, giant ice blocks are removed from Lake Memphremagog to open a pool in the lake where competitors come from all over the world to race against other hearty souls. Brrr!

Welcome Reception

The Welcome Reception will take place 4-6 p.m. on Friday evening at the Le Belvedere

100 Main Street, Suite 200
Newport, Vermont, 05855
(802) 487-9147

Weekend Activities

If you are looking for an activity after the reception, check out the outdoor movie to be played on the waterfront under the stars at Prouty Beach.

Saturday and Sunday are unscheduled so that guests can explore our vibrant communities and attractions.

We take great pride in our beautiful Lake Memphremagog. Celebrate life on the lake at the annual Aquafest where you can enjoy vendors, activities, games, a parade, and even a street dance. From the lake, a stroll along Newport’s city streets will bring you to unique shops that showcase the region’s world-class artisanal craft and food products.

A road trip through the surrounding countryside is a must. Hill Farmstead Brewery, rated the best brewery in the world, is just a short drive from downtown Newport, and along the way you’ll find eclectic cultural attractions, quaint village centers, hidden culinary spots, and all the scenic views you could want. Stop by nearby Jay Peak Resort for an afternoon of fun (yes, even in the summer!).

To take full advantage of the many resources available to you throughout the weekend, we encourage you to connect with the community and business leaders you meet at the Friday reception, and make plans with them for additional conversation, introductions, and activity ideas based on your interests.
