Take a Hike

Winter Hiking Offers Serenity and Beautiful Views

Winter is one of the best times to enjoy a hike. Whether you're looking to summit one of our majestic peaks or take in the season with a lower-tempo walk through the snow, Vermont's trails have you covered. Vermont's 55 state parks are open all winter, though not staffed and without amenities like restrooms and running water, and make for great hiking and sightseeing with free public access. Mountains like Huntington's Camel's Hump, Stowe's Mount Mansfield and Arlington's Mount Equinox are popular winter hikes, offering spectacularly snowy summit views. When hiking in the winter, it's important to remember temperatures at the top can be drastically colder than the bottom and some form of traction footwear is recommended. Check out the Green Mountain Club's winter hiking preparedness guide for more information.
